Private candidates in A levels

Private candidates in A levels

Properly the most feared for the sixth form colleges and schools who are mostly privately funded. The Private candidate rise will do what Napster did for the music industry to the education industry.

Whereas before Napster you had to buy the whole album. Napster allowed you to freely choose the music track. (While not paying for it) . This tempered the market. Morphing into Itunes. The rest is history.

You can choose when and where you can take your exams. It hasnt be well known nor well served. Post Virus this is all set to change.

Using the independent exam centres who provide flexible exam settings. Not reliant on the traditional school year. Candidates now see the value of not spending all their time and money.

Where does the private candidates do their learning?

There are now a plethora of online offering at the tuppence price compared to a full year at college. Not only the online courses but the free forums are brimming with enthusiastic free help on GCSE and A level courses.

The vast majority of private sixth form colleges will struggle to compete with these almost free courses. The same effect is happening much faster with university arts courses. As Jordan Peterson so sensibly puts. The arts degree course now is done so well with lectures through youtube. All it would take is for google, the parent owner of YT, to start to push academic content creators. With in vogue tutors giving their content always for free or almost free. This is not about content creators all getting rich. As thousands flock to the platforms. This is about a systemic shift aways from inflexible institutions whose value added opposition doesn’t stack up anymore. Especially at the price they traditionally charge. Viva la revolution.

Government Policy

There is no Government policy to promote independent private candidates with self study. There are various grants and loans for university. Though none for self study. Perhaps Gov. Should extent the student loan arrangement to the private candidate. Once this happens the acceleration of the effect of independent study and private candidates will begin to flush through the system .

This is something the Exam House is campaigning for!
